The definition of “hosting” does not describe only one service, but a set of services that offer a variety of functions to a domain name. Having a website and e-mails, as an illustration, are two individual services despite the fact that in the general case they come together, so most people think of them as one single service. The truth is, every domain name has a couple of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that deals with each specific service - the former is a numeric IP address, which identifies where the site for the domain is loaded from, while the latter is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that deals with the emails for the domain name. For instance, an A record can be 123.123.123.123 and an MX record is mx1.domain.com. Whenever you open a site or send an email, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a domain name has and the traffic/message is first forwarded to that company. When you have custom records on their end, the Internet browser request or the email will be directed to the correct server. The reasoning behind employing separate records is that the two services use different web protocols and you can have your website hosted by one provider and the e-mail messages by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Website Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with each and every Linux shared website hosting plan which we offer you, will allow you to view, change and set up A and MX records for every domain or subdomain in your account. Using the DNS Records section, you'll be able to view a list of all hosts in the account from a to z with their related records, so any update isn't going to take you more than a few clicks. Creating new records is just as simple if, for instance, you wish to use the e-mail services of a different company and they ask you to set up more MX records than the default 2. You may also set the priority for each MX record by setting different latency. Quite simply, when your emails are delivered, the sending server is going to contact the record with the smallest latency first and in case the connection times out, it will contact the next one. Using our advanced tool, you're going to be able to control the records of your domain names and subdomains with ease even when you have no previous experience with such matters.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, included with our Linux semi-dedicated plans, will enable you to view the A and MX records for every one of the domain names or subdomains in your account and if required, to change any of them or create new ones. Controlling these records is very easy since all domains/subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically, so editing a record is as easy as entering it in a box and saving the change. Creating a new one takes a few more clicks and if you experience any problems, you can check out our instructional videos on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by individuals with little or no previous experience, yet sophisticated enough to provide you with 100 % control over all records and to allow you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you're pointing your e-mails to a different service provider and they ask you to set up more than 2 different MX records, you can select the priority of each one.
