Every personal computer or web server is run by an Operating System - the low-level program which interacts with the hardware equipment, including peripherals such as a mouse and a printer, together with any apps that are installed on the system. Any program input through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the Operating System. On a server, every single app runs within the parameters established by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, etcetera. This goes for both standard site scripts and server-side software such as a media server. When a virtual server is created on a physical one, there can be two separate Operating Systems, named guest OS and host OS, so you will be able to set up a different software environment on the very same machine.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

If you choose to buy one of our VPS server packages, you shall be able to opt for one of the three Linux distributions that we supply for the Operating System of the servers - CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian. These are among the most widespread and most stable server OSs available and we offer them in order to give you a choice for the software environment of your machine if you wish to install some app with specific requirements with regards to the packages that have to be present on the web server. We also offer three hosting Control Panels and which one of them you could use will depend on the OS that you have picked. We leave the option to replace the server Operating System open, so when you want to use software that requires an OS different from the one you have, we can always reinstall the VPS. We can also keep the OS up-to-date on a weekly basis by installing all of the security updates that may be released.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

In case you decide to buy one of our dedicated servers, you shall find three Operating Systems on the order page as we want to give you a broader choice with regard to the system environment on your server as different apps could have specific requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian feature different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select any of these OSs and take advantage of a stable and risk-free hosting service. Depending on your decision, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Of course, we can always change the Operating System if the one you have selected in the beginning does not meet the requirements of the software which you want to run. We can also upgrade the OS on a regular basis in order to keep it as risk-free as possible through our Managed Services upgrade package.
