An AAAA record is an IP address within the newly released IPv6 format and it is made up of eight sets of hexadecimal digits, in contrast to the IPv4 IPs, which feature four groups of digits between 1 and 255. A good example of an IPv6 address would be 3014:0d43:23a3:2354:1320:8f3b:2635:3254 and in this format the number of IPs that could be created is many times greater than the number of the IPv4 addresses. Every domain name has its hosting server IP address as a record and in essence, this unique record informs the domain where the website for it can be found. Depending on the system which the provider employs, the record will be called A (IPv4) or AAAA (IPv6). Changing this record allows you to host your Internet site with one provider and your e-mails with a different one, so if you choose to use this type of redirection to point a domain to a server that uses an IPv6 address, you'll need to create an AAAA record for it.

AAAA Records in Shared Website Hosting

The advanced Hepsia website hosting CP, included with our shared website hosting, allows you to create a new AAAA record with ease. When you're in the account and you visit the DNS Records section, you will discover all records that you have for any hosted domain or a subdomain under it. All it takes to set up the AAAA record is to click on the New Record button, to pick the domain/subdomain in question, pick AAAA then simply input or copy and paste the IPv6 address. We also have a step-by-step guide if you've never created records for your domains, but it's less likely that you will need it as Hepsia is much easier to use than other Control Panels available. Within an hour your new record shall be active and your domain name will start resolving to the servers of the other service provider. In addition, there’s an option to modify the TTL value, which determines how long this record is going to be active if you update it, from the standard 3600 seconds to any value the other service provider may require.

AAAA Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server account from our company and you have to create an AAAA record for a domain name you have hosted in it or a subdomain you've set up, it will take you just a few clicks in the Hepsia CP to accomplish this. Even if you have never had a website hosting account before, you'll not face any problems because you will use a very simple and easy-to-use interface. All the DNS records for your domain names will be listed in a section of the Control Panel with the same name, so as soon as you go there, you will see all records that have been set up automatically or manually and you will be able to set up a new one by clicking on the corresponding button. A little pop-up will appear, so with just a couple of mouse clicks you can choose the type of record that you need and for which domain name or subdomain it'll be set up. Afterwards, simply paste the IPv6 address inside a text box, save the modification and one hour later the new AAAA record will be 100% active. As an optional setting, you can pick the time this record is going to be operating after you modify it or delete it in the future. That's the so-called TTL, or Time To Live value of the record, which you can modify from the standard 3600 seconds in case the other service provider needs it.
